A solar and battery package combines solar PV generation with battery storage in a single, integrated system — so you generate electricity during the day, store the surplus, and use it in the evening and at night. For most East Lothian homes it is the most effective way to cut grid reliance.
Why go solar-plus-battery from the start?
Installing solar and a battery together means a single hybrid inverter, a single installation visit, and a system designed from the ground up to work as one. It avoids the cost and disruption of retrofitting a battery later, and means every watt of surplus solar is stored from day one.
At about 56°N on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, East Lothian has a seasonal solar year with long summer days. Open coastal and farmland exposure means little shading, though coastal sites need wind- and salt-rated fixings. With long summer days generating more than most homes use at the time, a battery is what turns that surplus into real evening and overnight value.
What is included in a solar and battery package?
- Solar panels sized to your roof and annual usage.
- A hybrid inverter capable of managing solar generation and battery charge/discharge.
- A battery sized to your evening and overnight demand.
- Smart monitoring so you can see generation, storage and usage in real time.
- Full installation, commissioning and MCS paperwork via our certified partners.
How the system works day to day
During the day, your solar panels generate electricity that powers your home first. Any surplus charges the battery. Once the battery is full, further surplus is exported to the grid. In the evening and at night, your home draws from the battery before pulling from the grid — meaning you use more of your own solar and buy less electricity.
For homes on time-of-use tariffs, the battery can also charge on cheap off-peak electricity overnight, ready for the next day.
Solar and battery for East Lothian homes
Historic stone-built market towns and coastal villages such as Haddington, Dunbar and North Berwick, alongside former mining towns like Tranent and Prestonpans with large ex-council estates. Rapid recent growth has added many new private estates, while the countryside holds farmhouses and farm steadings. From new builds in Musselburgh to stone-built homes in Haddington and coastal properties in North Berwick, our MCS-certified partners design each system around your roof, your usage and your budget. Solar on most homes is permitted development in Scotland; listed buildings and conservation areas need consent — check with East Lothian Council.
If you already have solar and just want to add storage, see our battery storage page. For EV drivers, we also arrange EV chargers that can charge from your stored solar.
